Well, for a number of years now we have been making our announcements, website launches, etc on this WordPress blog. I have never felt it was ideal as we prefer to use our own solutions if possible and it always struck me as a little ironic that we, a design company, didn’t even design the theme we use.

These days are over. We are very happy to announce the launch of our new website which includes a blog, news, portfolio and more. It’s got a few rough edges which we will be ironing out over the next few days (and weeks and months no doubt!) and we welcome your feedback through the comments here or on our announcement page on the new site.

WordPress 2.5 is out!

April 7, 2008

It’s been a while since WordPress made any significant changes to their fantastic blogging/publishing system but WordPress 2.5 has finally been released (and I am using it now).

From what I see so far, I like it. More intuitive, nicer layout and interface design (thanks, I think, to the folks at Happy Cog whose work we love!).

Here’s the full article from the WordPress blog.

Small group biking holidays in Africa, New Zealand, Chile & China.

Escape Adventures are a small New Zealand based company. They are passionate about biking and driven by the reward that comes from leading the sort of cycling adventure that will touch your soul and you’ll remember forever.

John and Mandy have researched biking routes and nurtured relationships so you can truly immerse yourself in your mountain biking or cycling trip and make your own unique personal encounter.

Their biking routes are made up of a range of dirt, 4 wheel drive and paved roads suitable for anyone with a good fitness level. The biking trips are guided and catered by them and fully vehicle supported so you can experience the best of the landscape, people, culture and wildlife with the comfort and security of a vehicle to carry your gear, or you if you need a break from cycling.

A maximum of 10 bikers (plus Escape crew) ensures that your biking adventure is a personal one and they minimise their impact on the environments and communities they visit.

Small groups also mean that Escape Adventures can offer the best of themselves, always provide fresh and healthy meals, and keep their equipment in top condition.

Their new website can be viewed at www.escapeadventures.co.nz. Check it out.

Even if you don’t sign up for one of their fantastic adventures, be sure to check out their great photos in their photo library.

We are looking at moving forward with several large in-house projects and we need someone to join our team who is passionate about web development and has good experience working in Ruby on Rails. Advanced XHTML, CSS and AJAX/Javascript would be great.

We want someone to join our team who is highly motivated and creative and who can take their own initiatives while also being able to follow instructions. We need someone who can think broadly and outside the square and who has a good understand of solid programming ideas.

Applicants do not have to be in Golden Bay and we are open to working remotely however we would prefer to take someone on in New Zealand and we are not keen to go through the process of applying for work permits so New Zealand residency is essential.

If you’re at all interested, please email Galen at jobs@luciddesign.co.nz. Please provide your phone number as I would like to follow up with a phone call if possible.

We have been working with Shopify for almost two years now and have developed a number of sites built in Shopify. It is a fantastic system that is getting better all the time. For those who need a simple, fully functional shopping cart system, Shopify is perfect. It might not be endlessly customisable but it’s pretty fantastic.

Shopify is built in Ruby on Rails and uses the Liquid templating system which was actually developed by these guys specifically for Shopify.

Shopify is perfect for boutique shops, artists, wineries or anyone else starting out selling online.

For more information on Shopify, check out their online brochure or contact us.
